Healthy Roofs

What does a healthy roof look like and what can you be doing to extend the life of your shingles and other roof materials? Keep reading to find out! We offer roof inspections to check on all your essential roofing materials. Our inspections include examination of shingles, sealants, chimney, gutters, and surrounding trees coverage.

Healthy roofs entail maintenance and tune-ups yearly. Shingles can become worn, damaged, or even misplaced over time or due to weather conditions. It is imperative to replace these for not only the health of your roof, but it can prevent a leak that could leave your drywall or roof decking water damaged. Checking your sealants over your roof accessories, chimney accessories, and nail heads yearly for wear can also help reduce your risk for unneeded leaks. Over time the sealant on chimney flashing, roof accessories, and nail heads can fail due to wear and tear. Replacing this sealant can add longevity to your roof. Checking your chimney for imperfections in your chimney crown, chimney cap, and tuck pointing are also included during a roof inspection.

Having overhanging tree limbs can wreak havoc on your roof. Not only do they pose a risk of falling, but they can increase build up in gutters and organics accumulations on shingles. Trimming trees back to where they aren’t overhanging can minimize these issues with your roof. When organic materials start to accumulate, we use a spray to eliminate that growth along with hand scrubbing with shingle friendly brushes for areas with heavy accumulation. Once organic growth is noted, it is important to spray as soon as possible as this can ruin the integrity of the shingles. Lastly, keeping up with gutter cleanings will ensure that clogs don’t allow water to push up under the shingles causing leaks or weigh down roofing material.

While all of this may seem overwhelming, if you leave it up to the professionals at His Work Handyman- all of these can be evaluated during a FREE estimate.
